sillydilly66 asked: I have an older Dell Inspiron 5000 laptop I am trying to setup with a Linksys wireless router. I bought a Linksys wireless card for the laptop. I was told that this card was all I needed. I was having trouble with the setup so I called Linksys. They told me the setup will not work because I do not have an ethernet adapter on this computer. Isn’t that what the card is supposed to be? Do I need to buy something else? Please help!
I did call Linksys. They told me I do not have an ethernet adapter. What does this mean? I do have a card that I inserted into the laptop. I have highspeed internet through Comcast. I just really need to know what Linkysy meant when she told me the laptop does not have an ethernet adapter because I thought the card was all I needed.
The comcast modem is currently connected to a PC.
acm26,
Thanks for the intelligent response. I do have another computer, but I have not connected the router yet. The instructions said install the CD FIRST and follow the instructions. I got stopped during the setup because it could not locate a network adapter. It told me how to enable LAN in network connections, but there is no LAN listed to enable. I did connect it once to the other computer, but it still didn’t work. Also, the other computer doesn’t work very well so I can no longer access the internet from it. Sometimes I get lucky and I can, but it takes 10 minutes for a page to load.
