Linksys wireless connection to a MAC?

Saturday, October 27th, 2007
Robert G asked:

Okay, so right now I have the MAC desktop and my sister wants me to trade in if she bought the MacBook. Which is what I want. So we were planning on trading once she bought the MacBook but I have a few questions first.

I have a Verizon Wireless internet connection and I don’t think its wireless. But if I plug in a Linksys or any other thing like that [If there is, please tell me], will it open up a connection through that? Or do I first need to set up a wireless connection throught my carrier?

Also, would it connect to a Macintosh? If so, how about to Verizon Wireless connection?

Basically, I want to know that if I trade in my desktop for the macbook, would I be able to get a wirless connection set up with/without the linksys?

Because my friend has a macbook, and uses Linksys to get wireless so I think it will set up to a Macintosh. But, just making sure.

Please answer only if you have had experience with this topic or if you know a lot about this kind of thing.

Thnx.

Upgrade from Linksys B Router to Linksys-G Router?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007
Joey R asked:

I have a the following setup (DSL Modem –> LinkSys Wireless B (BEFW11S4) Router –> Desktop (Windows XP). This is working fine.
I purchased a Linksys Wireless G router, using same configuration I am unable to access Internet. Running the setup it never even gets to the router setup screen?

The one issue I am not sure of, My Modem default IP is same as the linksys (192.168.1.1) so on my old router I was changed the default to 192.168.2.1. But I can not do this with the new one yet since I can not get to setup screen.

Each time I try with setup CD, I see the network connection getting the error “Limited or no Network connection”.

Linksys/Comcast Networking Problem?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007
tgg179 asked:

I had a wireless network in my house using Comcast Cable which was sent from my main computer to my laptop. The cable was out for about a week, and comcast sent one of their technicians out to fix the problem. It ended up being an outdoor problem and the technician fixed the cable box in the ground outside for our street. The main computer is connected to a linksys router which sends the internet to the laptop. The network was somehow deleted thru the process. I went to make a new network. It wouldn’t let me make one so I went to www.linksys.com and and followed their steps and saved the “EasyLink Connect” to a blank CD. I put it into the laptop and brought up the linksys connection wizard. I have a DELL ISPIRON 6400 with an internal wireless card. The wizard will not let me continue becuase the “Wireless Radio is off”. I made sure it was turned on by using “Fn + F2″. It’s on but the message on the wizard still says that I need to activate the wireless adapter’s radio now.

What is the difference between a Linksys Router with/without VPN?

s0ul_exp0sed asked:

This is the router without VPN
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1144763513404&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper

This is the router with VPN
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1154659754557&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper

I have two locations, call them Location A(home) and Location B(office)

Location A has a Linksys Router with VPN
Location A has a static IP address w/highspeed 222.222.222.222 sample IP
Location A has a Network Camera with its own address 192.168.1.18

Location B has a Linksys Router with VPN
Location B has a static IP address w/highspeed 111.111.111.111
Location B has a Network Camera with its own address 192.168.1.19

My existing setup, I just do port forwarding. If I wanted to set up a VPN tunnel, what would be involved for configuring these routers

linksys question?

Monday, October 22nd, 2007
Vitaminx asked:

I have an Apple/Mac laptop.

When I open my door to outside the signal is decent; two bars. However, when the door is closed, the signal can’t be used. I bought a repeater linksys WRE54G but it did not help at all. I can’t keep the door open all the time just to use it. It’s a neighbor’s and I don’t know where it is coming from. All I know is that it is linksys so that’s why I bought a linksys repeater. I tried placing it inside, outside, nothing worked.

If you give advice, please provide very detailed information.
I tried calling linksys and some indian guy who could not even speak English properly, only said that I need router info (not possible for me) PS~Anybody hear of outsourcing American jobs?

Wireless signal downgraded?

leland_72 asked:

i have a dell inspiron 8600. maybe about 4 mons ago or so i actually did a fresh re-install of the windows xp home os. this laptop has an internal wireless card which is the Intel 2200 Pro/Wireless. i’m running avg anti-virus and zonealarm pro. windows firewall is disabled. we have comcast hsi with a linksys wrt54g router.

the problem is that my download speed is getting cut short when using wireless. if i plug in via ethernet cable i can pull on average 14.5 mbps dl/ 1.5 mbps upld. but when i connect wireless i hang around 3.5-4.5 mbps dl/ 1.5 mbps upld. which is a dramatic change.

here’s my check list so far:

disabled zonealarm and avg (i know it’s just antivirus but trying anything)
tested this using a mac laptop, and another dell desktop and both are fine
gave my comp static ip
replaced my wireless card with a brand new Intel 2200 Pro/Wireless
…by the way i’m sitting in front of the router during the tests
mulled around the networking settings but couldn’t find anything concrete
updated drivers and also tried various wireless management programs

there may be more but that should be a start.

i’m just stuck guys. i really thought my old wireless card was just broken or stuck in “b” mode or something but it literally didn’t do anything after the replacement. maybe there’s a setting in the bios or something that i’m not familiar with that could cause this? any help would be great. so frustrated.

thx!

Wireless network internet connection problem! I need HELP?

Friday, October 12th, 2007
Luke (Clinton Supporter) asked:

Okay, I bought a new Compaq/HP laptop with Vista Home Premium on Sunday and everything works fine except I can’t connect to my wireless network. It’s my cousins wireless network Iand it’s an unsecure wireless network and even though my computer finds the network and picks it up it says connect to network. I click connect to network and it starts to connect and then stops and says Windows failed to connect and then says diagnose the problem and then says something like this:

“Windows can’t connect to network ********** because it hasn’t received a response from the wireless router or access point”

However if I plug the eternet cable into my laptop the internet works fine but I can’t connect to it wireless. My cousin however can connect to the wireless network with no problem.

I can connect to a lot of other wireless networks however such as the school library and other unsecure networks though

Can someone please help me get my computer to connect wirelessly to the network.

Router (Linksys WRT54) will NOT work?

Friday, October 5th, 2007
[haley] asked:

Okay, I’ve been having MAJOR issues with this WRT54G v8 router. This may take a while to explain.
Okay, so we bought this router a year or so ago. Just tried to hook it up, about the day after Christmas. No luck. Anyway, we tried everything, and Linksys said it was defective and sent us a new one.
Now: the new one has the same problem as the old one. (We have no idea what the problem is, which doesn’t help.)
We’ve tried everything off the Linksys website - pinging, commands, resetting, power cycling, static IPs, etc. Nothing works. We’ve tried the CD and documentation at least four times each. We’ve called Linksys numerous times, and tried the Live Chat. They tell us to do the same thing every time.

My question to you is, do you have any idea why it refuses to work? We think it might be a problem with the computers, but we can’t figure out what it would be. Our normal computer is Windows XP, and our new computer (the one we want to have internet) is Windows 2000.
I’ve also noticed that the router refuses to reset. That could be a problem. -cough-
