Wireless network internet connection problem! I need HELP??

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008
Luke (Clinton Supporter) asked:

Okay, I bought a new Compaq/HP laptop with Vista Home Premium on Sunday and everything works fine except I can’t connect to my wireless network. It’s my cousins wireless network Iand it’s an unsecure wireless network and even though my computer finds the network and picks it up it says connect to network. I click connect to network and it starts to connect and then stops and says Windows failed to connect and then says diagnose the problem and then says something like this:

“Windows can’t connect to network ********** because it hasn’t received a response from the wireless router or access point”

However if I plug the eternet cable into my laptop the internet works fine but I can’t connect to it wireless. My cousin however can connect to the wireless network with no problem.

I can connect to a lot of other wireless networks however such as the school library and other unsecure networks though

Can someone please help me get my computer to connect wirelessly to the network.

Ok well yeah i use xbox 360 live all the time, and I am not getting the best connection. I have to go wireless due to the huge space from my computer to TV. I currently use this linksys router(use link 1) and thinking about going to get a different one (use link 2). Is Link 2 router worth it do you own it. Do you recommend the jump.

linksys and widows vista?

Thursday, February 14th, 2008
Justin H asked:

I am trying to get my linksys wireless internet to work with windows vista
but everytime I try to install the drivers windows vista automatically installs them.

this normally wouldnt be a problem except that I need to use the regular linksys program and when vistas takes over it automatically switches to windows wireless and I cant use the regular linksys program ( once it switches over to the windows wireless one I cant turn on the original linksys program w/o reinstalling it)

anyway there are actually 2 questions
1. is there a way to bypass the automatic install on windows vista so I can install linksys w/o windows taking over

2. if not how can I switch over to linksys windows wireless

wireless connection doesn’t work?

Arthur_ICT asked:

My friend’s laptop, cable network works fine; she bought a D-Link PCMCIA Wireless Lan card, connect to wireless network at home. the driver was installed no problem, and firstly using Windows wireless configuration, after put WEP key, SSID and save, it pop up an alert said” at least one change wan’t applied to the wireless settings “. It sounds like a group policy thing, but the system is xp home; then we disabled the windows wireless configuration by disable the zero wireless service, and use the utility comes with the Wireless lan card, this time, it seems connected, it got the proper IP , gateway and DNS, but no internet, keep saying “can’t find the DNS”, but from the connenction details, the DNS IP is there, Primary & secondary.we plug the network cable again and it works fine with cable connection. After that, I tried an Asus USB wireless card, it did the same thing. i am thinking there must be that policy problem, but it’s a xp home edition and not in a domain.
Thanks for help
My laptop with wireless connection is working fine, so the wireless router is no problem
thanks for answers, the firewall has been disabled, even avast. I can’t do any changes to the “windows default wireless configuration”, It just like be locked up. I am really exhausted.
the driver and utility has been installed many times, never works.
Thank you for the answer, from the network scan, I can see the wireless network, when hit “connect button”, it pops up ask me to change the ac hoc to infrastructure network, but it doesn’t save any changes I made, just says”at least one change not applied to the wireless settings”
this scenery is normally happened in a domain environment, when a domain policy is applied on the workstation, and the policy is prevent user to change the wireless settings. but this time, it is a windows xp home edition(no domain function),no local group policy configuration. I searched google and others, perople get the same problem when they install the xp sp2, So I remove the service pack2, but the wireless still not work in sp1 mode; I have to reinstall sp2, and unfortunatelly it’s not help.

At last we can only suffer on cable connection, I haven’t tried to reinstall the system, it would help I suppose, but not wise enough.

Wireless???

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008
annette59011 asked:

I’m dial up and I have noticed when I get ready to log on, I get a message that I am in range of a wireless network/connection. Although I have never set anything up or have a “wireless card” on my laptop (I think Id need one?)when I click on the wireless icon..it says Default unsercured wirelss network. The network is configured for open access. Information sent over this network may be visible to others. If you want to connect to this network click connect. What is this all about? Wouldnt I need a “card” to connect or can I connect without one? Is this safe? And wouldn’t I have to have a ISP, so I can still have access to my main email address. Could someone just explain all this a little better..Im a little confused. I mean if I could connect w/out a card…who would I pay for the servcies to? Thanks for all your replies:)
My lap top is a Dell Inspirion 600m and is still relatively new…I purchased it last August. So is wireless quicker? Im sure it has to be vs. Dial up..And if I do try it…will they see any of my personal information?
