Arthur_ICT asked: My friend’s laptop, cable network works fine; she bought a D-Link PCMCIA Wireless Lan card, connect to wireless network at home. the driver was installed no problem, and firstly using Windows wireless configuration, after put WEP key, SSID and save, it pop up an alert said” at least one change wan’t applied to the wireless settings “. It sounds like a group policy thing, but the system is xp home; then we disabled the windows wireless configuration by disable the zero wireless service, and use the utility comes with the Wireless lan card, this time, it seems connected, it got the proper IP , gateway and DNS, but no internet, keep saying “can’t find the DNS”, but from the connenction details, the DNS IP is there, Primary & secondary.we plug the network cable again and it works fine with cable connection. After that, I tried an Asus USB wireless card, it did the same thing. i am thinking there must be that policy problem, but it’s a xp home edition and not in a domain.
Thanks for help
My laptop with wireless connection is working fine, so the wireless router is no problem
thanks for answers, the firewall has been disabled, even avast. I can’t do any changes to the “windows default wireless configuration”, It just like be locked up. I am really exhausted.
the driver and utility has been installed many times, never works.
Thank you for the answer, from the network scan, I can see the wireless network, when hit “connect button”, it pops up ask me to change the ac hoc to infrastructure network, but it doesn’t save any changes I made, just says”at least one change not applied to the wireless settings”
this scenery is normally happened in a domain environment, when a domain policy is applied on the workstation, and the policy is prevent user to change the wireless settings. but this time, it is a windows xp home edition(no domain function),no local group policy configuration. I searched google and others, perople get the same problem when they install the xp sp2, So I remove the service pack2, but the wireless still not work in sp1 mode; I have to reinstall sp2, and unfortunatelly it’s not help.
At last we can only suffer on cable connection, I haven’t tried to reinstall the system, it would help I suppose, but not wise enough.
