5 wireless cards to choose from for my Dell laptop, which one to get?

Sunday, March 30th, 2008
Blarg. asked:

i can get a:
Intel pro/wireless a/g mini-card (+$29)
Dell wireless G wifi mini card (+$0)
Dell wireless A/G wifi mini card (+$10)
Intel pro/wireless n mini card (+$79)
Dell wireless n mini card (+49)

right now I have a wireless-G plus MIMO router, so would that be good enough for newer 3D games, or would I need to switch to wireless-N or a wired connection?

Also, would the Dell a/g get worse reception or better or the same as the intel pro/wireless a/g?

Would the Intel g/a get better than the dell G?

Wireless networks?

Thursday, March 27th, 2008
Paul R asked:

OK, I’m hoping someone can help me here. It’s a bit of a strange one, and I wouldn’t class myself as an expert but here’s the problem and what I have done:

I have a Sony Vaio and it seems that it is not refreshing the wireless networks regularly, so its failing to connect to my netgear router sometimes. The icon on my start bar will regulary display that there are no networks in range even when they are. Now I know there is’nt a problem with my netgear because it has the most up to date software on it and my PS3 connects to it no problem, first time everytime.

It has to be something to do with the wireless drivers on my laptop. I can turn my laptop of and on again and usually this reboots and it will connect to the router, but sometimes, even when my laptop goes into sleep mode, when I click the mouse to reactivate it, it won’t find or connect ato a wireless network. I can even flick the wireless switch on the laptop and it won’t recognise its off and still say there are networks within range

I have:

disabled all firewalls and re-enabled them.
Attempted to repair the wireless connection, although sometimes the wireless cannot connect to the IP address.
Attempted to update the wireless drivers, they are upto date and fine.
Checked for virus/errors that could be causing problems, nothing found.
Reconfigured the router and input the settings again, several times.

I’ve probably tried a few other things to, just can’t remember.

It’s a confusing one but I’m hoping that one of you techy geezers will have a possible answer. Appreciation shown in the usual way

linksys wireless router g issue?

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008
sticksnslats91 asked:

well i have a linksys wireless g router and since my brother is the host computer he controls the linksys administration settings. So he cruelly blocked me from some of my gaming sites (I dont exactly how but i think he did it through the router) so now anytime i try to go to one of my gaming sites it won’t let me. I kno alittle about how the internet works and i know that the information being sent out is sent through packets. So im looking for a way to take off this restriction. Is there a way to access the admistration controls to the linksys router? should i reset the router so the default settings take effect? If anyone knows what I should do you can post whatever you know or email me at sticksnslats91@yahoo.com. Thanks

I recently brought a Macbook. But i want to connect it to the internet. And i don’t know how. I have a PC with a linksys router. I tried to use the linksys adapter so i can connect with the linksys router, but that doesn’t work on the Macbook. Is there another way i can get to the Linksys router? I know there’s the D-link bluetooth adapter (which can be usable with the mac), does it connect to the linksys i have? and the airport express card, what do i do with it? and can i just buy the card and it’ll work with connnecting with the linksys? and i can get to the internet?

Linksys WTR54G Dropping Connection?

Sunday, March 16th, 2008
EY asked:

I just helped my uncle procure a LINKSYS WTR54G before the holidays. He not even using the wireless side of the router yet, just hardwire connections. I connected it to our local ISP’s DSL modem and hard-coded in his STATIC IP address (just like mine here in the same town), and the connection is great. We have two systems connected via hardwire, One XP, one ME. I have upgraded th WTR54G firmware to the latest at the LINKSYS website.

Within about a day, both systems lose connection to the internet, as does my laptop if I just plug it in. All systems still have an IP, and I can still connect to http://192.168.1.1 to manage the router.

To get the systems reconnected, all I haved to do is open the LINKSYS console, click APPLY SETTINGS (without even making any changes!) and all the systems start connecting again.

Any ideas? I am an IT Professional myself, so there is not anything you could talk me through I am sure, I just do not have any significant expertise in router hardware.
It is a WRT54G - not WTR54G!!!

LINKSYS WIRELESS N adapter only connects to an access point, the router, or will it connect 2 ne existing link

Saturday, March 15th, 2008
incuritickillnewglory asked:

I am trying to connect to wireless through an adapter. It’s an N, somehow I am only able to connect to linksys which I have no clue who it is. I see the wireless connection I am trying to connect to but when I try to access it, it states that no access point. What I am trying to connect to is a roommates wireless router from time warner cable, its unsecure no password so I should be able to connect. Is it because I have a linksys adapter and it only wants to connect to a router that’s linksys, that just sounds weird. Though I do have a router for it but it’s not needed because of the wireless from TWC.
its a router from where my roommate works, its a motorola. i have a link sys WSB300N Wireless-N USB Network Adapter. I am using XP. I can see her network but still unable to connect. It’s unsecure also.
It’s from time warner cable also. Wouldn’t the adapter be able to connect to any network? I used this for my Linksys router but she already has this wireless router so I just didn’t use my router.

Would a Linksys N Router work well with an Xbox 360 Wireless Internet Adapter?

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008
NumeroUno asked:

So, I gave (rented) my router to some people. Now, I am going to get a new one, I called futureshop (It’s like a Canadian Best Buy) and they say they have new technology in called N. Looked it up the internet, people saying it’s great, others saying it sucks. Well, I can’t tell, cause I don’t have one.

I used to have the Linksys Wireless G Router. And it worked very well for me even if it was about 12 meters away from my xbox 360. With 2 walls to cross. Sometimes it gave me bad connection, but recently, it’s been very good to me. Would Linksys N Router be an improvement to my Xbox 360 or would it be worse or the same as Linksys G Router.

Please, indicate in the source space where your answer comes (Own(ed) it, heard about it, read about it, work for linksys, or things like that)

Thanks in advance!
