Nicole B asked:

i had a linksys wireless adaptor hooked up to my laptop and it recieves the signal from my desektop and my laptop was running very slow so i restored it back to factory setttings thinking i was all set because i still has all of my linksys software, but i follow the direction for linksys by putting the adaptor into the computer and since i have windows XP on the bottom right it’s supposed to say new hardware detected and guide me through the intalation progress, but this in not appearing, nothing visible changes with my computer it just makes the noise that new hardeware has been plugged in but no box or intallation help appear, what should i do? should i buy a new adaptor?

Just remove and reinstall the wireless software and drivers. You probably deleted the wireless NIC object.

Right click my computer, click manage. double click device manager and click the plus sign next to network adapters. You should see the wireless adapter there. Right click it for options, mainly “enable” or “update driver”. If you update driver you will have to get it from the linksys cd or download it on a working computer & take it to your wless pc.

If that doesn’t work, right click your wless adapter and click uninstall (if you have windows xp), then reboot. Adapter will automatically install on startup.

If you do not see the linksys adapter in device mgr, it may not be fully seated (or pressed down) into the slot in the computer. Or it may be a bad adapter.

No you dont need to buy a new adapter.

      1. Go to Start / Control Panel
Double click on system, click on hardware and device manager
Click on the plus sign in front of the Network Adapters.
Check if you can see your network card
or any other device under Other devices (driver not installed)

If you can see your adapter than go to linksys website download needed drivers and install them. Than restart your laptop and you are ready to connect.

If your getting a signal on your wireless card, try using windows to connect. Or, go to Device Manager, and view your network connections, and look for your linksys adapter. If you have a yellow warning on it, right click and enter the properties box. Update driver, and have your linksys cd ready. Use the Automatic install option(recommended). If prompted to install a cd, put your linksys cd in, and continue.
