      answers:

      1. no

      2. read your manual!!!
you set your modem up like usual, then take the line that goes out of the modem that goes to the pc and attach it to the router. then take the line from the router and connect it to ur computer. go on the main computer and open up an internet browser and type in 192.168.2.1 to configure your router. then get a laptop or ipod touch or any other piece of technology and connect to the internet wirelessly!!!!!

      1. you cannot connect with just a router and your pc you need a cable modem
      2. the connection would go in this order: cable modem, router, computer. if your computer is next to your router all you have to do is run an ethernet cord to it if it is far away and you don’t want to use a cord, you can install a wireless desktop card:

      1) NO you cannot connect without a cable modem.

      2) Connect the Cable into the modem ANDModem to the Router…the router and your PC is connected without a wire. Make sure your PC has a compatiable PCI Wireless card installed, if not you will have to buy one.

Regards installation, read the instruction, its the better way to install as it will give u minute details and will be quite handy.

But normally, if you are not a computer guy, it is advised to buy the wi-fi (Wireless router) from your ISP if they provide you, as after-sales service and Tech support is good, easy and convinient.

      Hi
If you go to the Linksys website then to the learning zone take the networking tutorial that you will find there.A lot of your questions will be answered.
      1. some routers are wireless gateways and have a modem built in .These are only of use on ADSL like B.T.For cable you need a simple wireless router. The WRT54G from Linksys is probably the most popular. You can check which one you have on the Linksys site.
2.Once you have found out what type of router you have you need to check if your laptop is wireless enabled. Most laptops produced in the last few years are.
a.Run the router software on your laptop
      b.Power down your modem
      c. Connect the Ethernet port of your modem to the Internet port of your router
d.Connect any output port of your router to the Internet connection of your laptop
e.Switch on MODEM ROUTER then LAPTOP in that order
f.run modem setup wizard. If you are unable to answer any of the questions press cancel the router sets up anyway
      f. disconnect the cable from your laptop to the router.
      g.Enable your laptop wireless function.
h.do a wireless search. connect to your router
But the best thing for you to do right now is to visit the Linksys website learning zone

For cable you need the modem regardless. Your router needs to be cable compatible, which has a WAN port (RJ45) to connect to the modem and LAN ports for wired connections and to set it up. A dsl only router will not work.
