This Linksys WUSB11 Wireless USB Network Adapter allows you to share data, printers, or high speed Internet access over your existing wireless network! This 802.11b compliant adapter operates at 2.4 GHz frequency and features up to 11 Mbps data transfer rates. It connects directly to any USB ready PC.

Netgear and Linksys are both good companies personally I use linksys just got comfortable with them. Really it’s just a gui interface difference. That router should be fine for whatever your trying to do.

Linksys WUSB11 Wireless USB Network Adapter is NOT A ROUTER. This is what you plug into computers so that they can talk to the router, but since you just bought your laptop, it most likely has a wireless network adaptor anyway.
You say you have cable not ADSL, so you need a DSL/Cable router. Netgears tend to be easier to use, but Linksys have more features. Any of these brands is good.
I don’t know whether you’re from UK or another country or not, but I recommend somethin from this
or this
You can save some pennies on ebay if you are careful. Justdeals-uk have supplied me 2 Netgear cable routers that work just fine
(The ones at £18.95 - my 2 that cmae looked newer in shiney white cases)

I use the Linksys wireless-G router (model WRT54GS) as my wireless router and my laptop has a built in wireless receiver. the Adapter you are talking about is a ok one but remember the golden rule with electronics, you get what you pay for. I would go for one with a faster data transfer rate though

linksys is definitely the way to go. Tried to set up one netgear device about two years ago after a good tech told me not to buy one. Ran into a dead end. Returned and bought a linksys, it set up right away.
You get what you pay for.

I would suggest you should go for linksys. I have a linksys WAG200G router and it sets up wonderfully well. But i have a netgear adapter WG511v2 in my laptop and since 3 days i have been receiving very low signal and frequent drop outs. I m myself not sure whats causing the problem
