Upgrade from Linksys B Router to Linksys-G Router?

Posted by admin
Joey R asked:

I have a the following setup (DSL Modem –> LinkSys Wireless B (BEFW11S4) Router –> Desktop (Windows XP). This is working fine.
I purchased a Linksys Wireless G router, using same configuration I am unable to access Internet. Running the setup it never even gets to the router setup screen?

The one issue I am not sure of, My Modem default IP is same as the linksys (192.168.1.1) so on my old router I was changed the default to 192.168.2.1. But I can not do this with the new one yet since I can not get to setup screen.

Each time I try with setup CD, I see the network connection getting the error “Limited or no Network connection”.

Your modem IP is correct at 192.168.1.1. You have to edit the modem configuration to “bridge” it. the router is also correct at 192.168.2.1 - you then put the modem info (password, etc) into the router so that it will control the modem. contact linksys and they will walk you through it.

i’d suggest turning your computer off, then turining your router off, then turning your modem off, waiting 20 minutes, then turn your modem on, wait for the lights to start up, then turn your router on and wait for the lights to come on, then turn your computer on.
